Social Issues Day #1

I found the initial part of the first Social Issues Day not as informative as the second. However, i loved the workshop i attended at the first Social Issues Day. The one workshop i attended was about children who endure a disorder known as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (or 'FAS'). The presentation was well organized and very informative. The presenter even had a young adult with FAS come in and discuss her school and life experiences with us which i found to be very beneifical as the info came right from a direct source. It was nice to actually listen to someone's real life experiences for a change instead just a lecture of research. I discovered how the choices pregant women make regarding alcohol consumption drastically affects their unborn child's wellbeing. These children demonstrate symptoms very similar to children with ADHD or autism, ultimately causing teachers to assume such disorders over FAS. As future teachers, it is important to attend workshops such as this one so that we can become more informed and aware of the other possible disorders that are increasingly affecting youth in our society.
